Deanna Driver
For this project, I created the infographic for the data visualization assignment, I played a large role in the creation of the explainer story, and I *attempted* the Go Pro 360 extra credit assignment. As far as the infographic goes, I collected all the data on Blacksburg demographics from the U.S. Census and from DataUSA. After downloading the data files and compiling the information, I created the infographic on Canva, which included five graphs and associating descriptions. In addition to the data visualization project, I also did a lot of work on the explainer story. I contacted a majority of the sources and went to all three interviews that were conducted. I took b-roll (video and photo) all across Blacksburg and at the Special Collections archive, I helped write a portion of the final VoiceOver script, and I did a stand-up. I edited the explainer story. Finally, I did do the Go Pro 360 assignment; I went to a few locations in Blacksburg, filmed them with the camera and then pieced them together. I really don’t know if I did it right, and I ran into a few complications with transferring the files from the iPad to my computer, but it was worth a shot!
Jordan Meadows
As a team member, I took on various roles, including conducting mini-documentary interviews, producing and editing footage, and capturing b-roll film at several locations in Blacksburg. Additionally, I conducted interviews for one of the text stories, which focused on the construction projects on and off campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. This was a challenging piece of hard news that required extensive research and attention to detail to accurately convey the implications, costs, and plans for these projects. Lastly, I assisted with creating slides for the presentation, doing the slides about the mini-documentary and text story on constant construction, and editing and adding bullets to other slides. Throughout the process, I attempted to assist my group members with generating ideas and meaningfully engaged with them to produce a high-quality final product.
Kayla Frank
I was able to take on the text story for the final project which involved gathering information from numerous resources and interviewees in regards to housing in Blacksburg. Additionally, I was able to locate survey data involving the housing crisis and what residents think about the topic in regards to affordability and accessibility. Furthermore, I took several pictures of housing on and off Virginia Tech’s campus, which further embellished the text story. I owe it to my group members for taking the lead, delegating, and organizing the group project in an efficient and cohesive manner.
Emily Logue
For this project I assisted with a lot of different aspects. I wrote one of the text stories about opening up businesses in Blacksburg while conducting interviews and reaching out to many local businesses in the area for their input. After reaching out to at least 20 different businesses, I heard back from some who were more than happy to help with the project. I helped capture footage, find sources, write and edit the script, collect stock video, and conduct interviews for the Explainer Story. I created ideas for what the mini documentary, Go Pro 360 video, as well as the other text stories could be during the planning process. I helped organize the presentation slides and gathered information to add notes and pictures to our slides. I was very transparent and responsive with my group members that allowed us to work together very cohesively.
